LWHRA will offer a SHRM-CP / SHRM-SCP Certification Study Group for the 2022 Winter Testing Window.

LWHRA’s Certification Program meets on Saturday mornings from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM, beginning February 26, 2022 running through April 30, 2022. Our chapter is pleased to be able to offer this affordable SHRM certification program option as a benefit to our members and other HR professionals in our community. Other exam prep classes can cost as much as $1500. You can save money when you bundle your program registration and the 2022 SHRM Learning System through LWHRA. Every participant must have their own copy of the SHRM Learning System. Add the Learning System materials to your order when you register!


This program requires a significant commitment from participants in order to be successful. You can expect to spend anywhere from 8–10+ hours per week on session time, reading, and studying with your groups. The SHRM exam focuses on eight behavioral competencies (Ethical Practice, Leadership & Navigation, Communications, Relationship Management, Global & Cultural Effectiveness, Consultation, Critical Evaluation, and Business Acumen) and three technical domains—People (HR Strategic Planning, Talent Acquisition, Employee Engagement & Retention, Learning & Development, Total Rewards), Organization (Structure of the HR Function, Organizational Effectiveness & Development, Workforce Management, Employee & Labor Relations, Technology Management), and Workplace (HR in the Global Context, Diversity & Inclusion, Risk Management, Corporate Social Responsibility, U.S. Employment Law & Regulations). We expect participants to:

  • Complete the assigned reading before each class (there is a high volume of reading!).
  • Come prepared and on time for each weekly session.
  • Be actively engaged in class discussion and don’t be afraid to ask questions!
  • Connect and study with fellow participants.
  • Provide feedback so that we can continue to make this a successful program. 


If a participant is actively engaged (must attend 8/10 classes) and does not successfully pass the SHRM exam, LWHRA will allow the student to audit sessions within the next 12 months for free.


Cancellation Policy:
LWHRA will accept cancellations received on or before ten (10) day prior to the event. Registrants who cancel on or before ten (10) days prior to the event will receive a refund, less $20 processing fee. No refunds will be given for cancellations received after ten (10) days prior to the event. A substitute attendee will be permitted given the LWHRA office receives notice of the substitution on or before ten (10) days prior to the event. After ten (10) days prior to the event, the following conversion fees will apply:

  • Event registrations $100 or greater = $25 substitution fee
  • Event registrations less than $100 = $10 substitution fee

The LWHRA Certification Committee is looking for volunteer speakers to facilitate one class per semester for the SHRM Certification Prep Course. Speaker topics cover the SHRM Body of Competency and Knowledge (BoCK) behavioral competencies and 15 areas of HR knowledge including workforce management, diversity & inclusion, HR in the global context, and employee and labor relations. 


Volunteers with expertise in more than one area may facilitate more than one class. Preference will be given to presenters holding the SHRM-CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR certifications. Classes start soon; complete the volunteer interest form today if you would like to facilitate a class this semester.
